The Pharmacoepidemiology Dermatology Program

Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School

The Dermatology-Pharmacepepidemiology (Derm-PE) Program advances knowledge of the treatments of dermatologic conditions in clinical practice to inform appropriate prescribing.

We do this by studying use patterns, the effectiveness and safety of systemic and topical therapeutics, and leveraging multiple real-world data sources, including claims data for over 200 million lives and electronic health records. We apply and adapt advanced epidemiologic and statistical methods to produce decision-grade findings.

We have collaborations with researchers and clinicians from multiple academic institutions in the United States and Europe.

We conduct research on the comparative safety and effectiveness of medications for dermatologic diseases, background disease burden, medication utilization trends, pediatric and older adult populations, safety monitoring program development, and validation studies.

Combining pharmacoepidemiology and dermatology is central to our work.

Our team includes epidemiologists, statisticians, pediatricians, dermatology collaborators, fellows, and students.
